Toilets at gas stations – when are they a pleasant stop on the road?
Data publikacji: 1 June 2025
Public restrooms in places such as shopping malls, train stations and airports are some of the most essential elements of the public facility network. This also applies to bathrooms located at gas stations. Their standard is often the deciding factor in whether travelers decide to stop at a given station – not only to satisfy their physiological needs, but also to refuel or shop, ensuring the station’s profit. What issues should be taken care of to make a gas station restroom a pleasant stop on a trip?
Toilets at gas stations
Studies show that gas station restrooms in Poland are becoming more user-friendly over the years. Owners of the facilities are increasingly concerned not only with keeping the bathrooms clean, but also with ensuring that the gas station’s toilet facilities are arranged ergonomically and aesthetically pleasing.
The level of hygiene in gas station restrooms is one of the most important factors to take care of when furnishing this type of room. It must be regularly cleaned and sanitized – preferably by a professional cleaning service. Keeping the bathroom clean on a daily basis becomes much easier if the elements of its equipment are made of good quality materials and are ergonomically installed.
An excellent solution for restrooms at gas stations are steel toilets. They allow you to easily ensure the necessary level of cleanliness; at the same time, they are very durable, which is very important for public bathrooms, which are used by many people every day.
Care should also be taken to ensure that the restroom located at the gas station never runs out of supplies such as toilet paper, soap and paper towels. These, too, should be placed in convenient feeders and dispensers, preferably touchless.
Toilet for drivers
A group of users for whom restroom facilities at gas stations are particularly important are professional drivers who travel long distances each day. Often, it is the presence of a bathroom that determines whether a traveler will choose this rather than another gas station, even if he or she primarily wants to refuel or shop.
Importantly, the drivers’ restroom should be available 24 hours a day. It happens that some stations deny access to bathrooms at night or provide them only to people who have made some kind of purchase. However, this is not a good practice. The restroom is one of the elements that has the greatest impact on the experience of a station, often determining whether it will be visited by a driver again.
Gas station toilet
According to the regulations, the toilet at a gas station must meet the same requirements as other public toilets:
- The height of the room must be a minimum of 2.5 meters,
- The walls must be covered with a material that is resistant to moisture and easy to clean,
- In a gas station toilet, the booths should be min. 150×100 cm,
- Men’s toilets must be equipped with urinals and a minimum of one cubicle with a toilet bowl,
- it is necessary to provide adequate ventilation – you can use exhaust fans or ducts and ventilation grilles,
- separate toilets for women and men should be set aside,
- At least one cabin should be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.
Since such spaces are most often located in or within bathrooms, it is also worth mentioning facilities for parents with children. Petrol stations with a floor area of more than 100 sqm should have special, separate rooms suitable for feeding and changing children. They must be equipped with a sink and ventilation, but also accessories such as folding wall changing tables. This allows people traveling with small children to take care of their needs on the road in comfort, which also translates into positive opinions about a given gas station.
Shower at a gas station
In order to make a gas station bathroom a friendly and attractive place for travelers, it is not worth limiting oneself to the items of equipment required by law. There is no obligation to provide showers at a gas station. However, places where they are provided are rated much higher by drivers than places where there is no opportunity to wash up, and are therefore visited more often. This is particularly noticeable in the case of professional truck drivers, who exchange information about facilities where it is possible to take care of hygiene during a stop. This means that showering at a service station can also contribute to its profits.
A shower located at a gas station is an amenity not only for people whose work involves many days spent behind the wheel. Among travelers there are also disabled people, for whom it is also worthwhile to provide an opportunity to take care of hygiene. Therefore, the shower at the station should be designed to allow people with mobility problems to use it safely and comfortably. The most important thing in this case is to provide such equipment as handrails and handles, as well as a wall-mounted folding seat.
Nice toilets at the gas station
When decorating a bathroom at a gas station, functionality and hygiene should be considered first and foremost. However, aesthetics should not be neglected. A nice restroom at a station is memorable to users; this means that they are more likely to return to the facility in the future, as well as to recommend it to other travelers.
Arranging a bathroom so that it looks neat and is in line with current trends is not difficult. It is worth following the principle of ?less is more? – the decor should be as minimalist as possible, without unnecessary decorations. At the same time it is good to choose accessories and equipment such as bathroom fixtures, which attract attention with an interesting design. Thanks to this, using a public toilet can become a truly pleasant experience.
Convenient restroom at a gas station
A comfortable station toilet is a place that is not only ergonomically decorated or finished with high-quality materials. In order to provide users with comfort and a sense of security, it is necessary, above all, to keep the bathroom clean. This is not a difficult task – there are numerous solutions available on the market today, thanks to which a public restroom at a gas station can be a truly hygienic place.
Notable features include self-cleaning toilet seats, waterless urinals (the lack of water makes for less favorable conditions for microbial growth), hand dryers and touchless dispensers and feeders.
It is also important for the comfort of users to provide not only an adequate number of cubicles and sinks. It is also necessary to ensure a proportionate number of soap or disinfectant dispensers, dryers or towel bins. This ensures that people who have used the restroom do not have to wait in line to wash and dry their hands. This, in turn, makes it less common for them to shake off moisture directly onto the floor after washing or to wipe their hands with toilet paper (which not only contributes to its excessive use, but also often results in littering of the bathroom and clogging of toilet bowls).
